RetUrn

RetUrn was dedicated to designing and manufacturing funeral urns using an innovative, sustainable 3D printing process. the process used fully biodegradable willowpaste, making it ideal for urns that would eventually decompose in the ground. the seminar focused on the combination of design and function, guiding participants in creating aesthetically pleasing urns that met both design and environmental requirements.

as part of the seminar, students first developed digital models with an emphasis on parametric design. care was always taken to ensure that the designed geometries were suitable for the LDM process and could be printed. once the digital models were optimized, they were physically implemented using 3D printing.

the goal was to design creative, functional, and environmentally friendly urns that met aesthetic and practical requirements while providing a forward-thinking solution for conscious burial. by working directly with the object, the seminar initiated discussions about the often taboo subject of dying.
